Laramie, WY (Sports Network) - Brett Smith had 295 yards passing and four
touchdowns as the Wyoming Cowboys made easy work of the Idaho Vandals, 42-10,
in non-conference action at War Memorial Stadium.
Smith completed 22-of-38 passes for Wyoming (1-1) with three of his touchdowns
finding the hands of Dominic Rufran (five receptions, 61 yards). Robert
Herron led all receivers with 123 yards on five catches. Shaun Wick carried
the ball 15 times for 110 yards for his second straight 100-yard effort, while
Brandon Miller (61 yards) and Tedder Easton (16 yards) added rushing scores
for the Cowboys.
Chad Chalich was 22-of-32 on the afternoon for Idaho (0-2) with 182 yards.
Dezmon Epps (61 yards) and Michael LaGrone (56 yards) each hauled in six
receptions for the Vandals, while James Baker (11 carries, 23 yards) had the
team's lone touchdown.
The start of the game was delayed 35 minutes due to lightning, and after a
scoreless opening frame, Wyoming struck first early in the second quarter with
a 10-yard rushing score by Miller.
The Cowboys added another rushing touchdown a few minutes later, this time a
13-yarder by Easton.
With less than a minute remaining before halftime, Smith connected with
Spencer Bruce on a four-yard touchdown to give Wyoming a 21-0 lead heading
The Cowboys picked up where they left off after halftime, as Smith found
Rufran for a one-yard touchdown pass midway through the third quarter.
The shutout continued as Smith and Rufran hooked up twice more in the third
quarter, once from six yards out and the other a 40-yard strike.
Idaho finally found the scoreboard midway through the fourth quarter on a 41-
yard field goal by Austin Rehkow. The Vandals added a touchdown in the final
minute when Baker ran in a one-yard score.
Despite owning nearly a 13-minute advantage in time of possession, Idaho was
outgained by Wyoming, 564 total yards to 344.
