Annapolis, MD (Sports Network) - Austin Lopez connected on all four of his
field goal attempts, which accounted for all of the scoring as the San Jose
State Spartans downed the Navy Midshipmen 12-0 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial
Stadium.
David Fales threw for 276 yards and an interception on 29-for-34 passing to
lead San Jose State (4-1), which has won four straight. De'Leon Eskridge and
Tyler Ervin combined for 115 yards rushing and Ryan Otten caught a game-high
eight passes for 94 yards for the Spartans.
Trey Miller ran for 28 yards and threw for 41 on 4-of-9 passing to account for
almost half of Navy's (1-3) offensive production. The Midshipmen gained only
144 total yards in losing for the third time in four games.
After neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in the first quarter, San
Jose State ended the scoring drought with a 29-yard field goal from Lopez in
the second quarter.
Another Lopez field goal, this time from 19 yards out, put the Spartans' lead
at 6-0 midway through the third quarter.
Lopez booted a 32-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to increase the
Spartans' lead to 9-0. Lopez added one more field goal later in the quarter to
put the game away.
San Jose State dominated in time of possession, holding the ball for 36:19 in
the win. Navy converted only 3-of-13 third down attempts while recording just
11 first downs.
