Jonesboro, AR (Sports Network) - Trey Finn and Ed Townsel both scored 15
points as the Arkansas State Red Wolves captured a 69-57 win over the Austin
Peay Governors in non-conference action at the Convocation Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Red Wolves (6-3), as the logged their
second win in as many tries, were Raeford Worsham and Brandon Peterson with 12
and 10 points, respectively.
The Governors (4-6) were paced by Travis Betran who tallied a game-high 21
points in 39 minutes of action. Anthony Campbell contributed 14 points and
Chris Horton filled out his stat line with 10 points, a game-high 13 rebounds,
four blocked shots and three steals but still the team suffered a second
The teams traded leads seven times in the first half, but thanks to a late
three-pointer by Betran it was APSU that moved out to a 29-24 advantage at the
break. The Red Wolves were rather lucky to still be within striking distance,
considering the squad missed all eight chances behind the three-point line and
shot only 33.3 percent from the floor overall through the first 20 minutes of
Midway through the second half, after the teams were locked up at 42-42,
Arkansas State put together an 11-3 run to take command and eventually cruise
to the double-digit victory.
The Red Wolves finished the meeting shooting just 5-of-20 beyond the arc and
14-of-25 at the free-throw line, but by forcing the Govs into 28 turnovers
those poor efforts didn't keep ASU out of the win column.
