Kent, OH (Sports Network) - Behind 19 points from Randal Holt, the Kent State
Golden Flashes took down the Arkansas State Red Wolves, 73-69, in non-league
play at the MAC Center.
For the Golden Flashes (7-5), Chris Evans added 16 points and Kellon Thomas
chipped in 14 points.
Ed Townsel led all scorers with 24 points for the Red Wolves (6-5), while
Cameron Golden finished with 15 points and Brandon Peterson grabbed 11
Kent State started strong, connecting on 53.8 percent of its field goal tries
in the first half, including 4-of-10 from beyond the arc, as it took a 40-34
lead into halftime. The Red Wolves shot well themselves, hitting on 50 from
the field in the opening 20 minutes.
The Red Wolves cooled off considerably in the second half, making only 34.6
percent of their field goal attempts, but a 14-8 scoring advantage from the
free throw line allowed them to keep the game close. The Golden Flashes shot
47.8 from the field after the break. After leading by as many as nine points
midway through the half, Kent State saw its advantage shrink to one, 61-60,
with just under six minutes to play, but ASU could not overtake the lead down
the stretch. Evans knocked down two free throws with six seconds to play to
seal the victory for Kent State.
The Golden Flashes had a 10-0 advantage in fast break points. Both teams had
trouble holding onto the ball with 19 turnovers apiece.
