Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Myles Mack led all scorers with 15 points as the
Rutgers Scarlet Knights defeated the Seton Hall Pirates, 56-51, in the Big
East Conference regular-season finale for both teams.
Mack also swiped five steals for Rutgers (14-15, 5-13 Big East), which snapped
a five-game losing streak. Jerome Seagears chipped in 10 points for the
Aaron Cosby scored 13 points for Seton Hall (14-17, 3-15), which has lost two
straight and 11 of 12. Brian Oliver netted 12 points, while Eugene Teague (11
points) and Fuquan Edwin (10 points) each grabbed eight rebounds.
Neither team shot greater than 40 percent from the field in the first half.
Haralds Karlis converted a dunk with 43 seconds left in the frame to give
Seton Hall a 25-23 lead at the break.
Rutgers caught fire at the beginning of the second half to take a 10-point
lead with 14:27 left, but Seton Hall answered with a 12-2 run to tie the game,
40-40, with 11:22 remaining. The teams played tight down the stretch, but a
pair of free-throws by Myles gave the Scarlet Knights a lead with under five
minutes to play that they would never surrender.
Rutgers converted 25 points off of 19 Seton Hall turnovers.
