Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Devon Collier netted 23 points to help the
Oregon State Beavers pull off their come from behind 79-74 victory over the
Portland State Vikings in a non-conference tilt at the Peter W. Stott Center.
Joe Burton added 20 points and seven rebounds for Oregon State (6-2), which
picked up its first true road win off the season. Roberto Nelson tallied 16
points, dished out six assists, and swiped five steals while Eric Moreland
contributed 14 points, seven boards, and three blocks.
Lateef McMullan and Renado Parker scored 16 points each for Portland State
(1-5) in its fifth consecutive loss. Aaron Moore went 7-of-7 from the floor to
produce 14 points which he accompanied with six rebounds. Michael Harthun
chipped in 11 points and Marcus Hall also grabbed six boards.
Portland State was on track to the upset early on and held a 22-13 lead with
8:40 left to play before the intermission. The Beavers rallied back to take a
32-26 advantage into halftime. Oregon State outscored the hosts 9-0 at the
charity stripe in the opening period to take control.
The Beavers looked like they were going to run away with the game as they
built a 59-45 edge on the scoreboard by the 8:11 mark of the second half, but
Portland State managed to cut the deficit to 69-64 with 1:18 showing on the
clock. Oregon State added six points at the foul line in the final minute to
stay in front. The Vikings converted 65.6 percent of their field goal attempts
over the final 20 minutes to keep pace with their first-ever home game versus
a Pac-12 Conference member at the Peter W. Stott Center.
Both sides combined to go 3-of-18 from beyond the arc in the contest.
