Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Led by a career-high 27 points from Joseph
Young, the Houston Cougars defeated the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, 85-63, in a
non-conference matchup at Hofheinz Pavilion.
For the Cougars (8-2), Danuel House added 22 points and TaShawn Thomas posted
a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Shawn Long led the Cajuns (4-7) with 20 points and Elfrid Payton chipped in
with 12 points.
Houston shot well to open the contest, connecting on 48.6 percent of its field
goal attempts in the first half, including 8-of-15 from three-point range, as
it took a 45-29 lead into the break. Louisiana struggling, shooting just 34.3
percent from the field and it missed all put one of its 10 three-point
attempts in the opening 20 minutes.
After intermission, the Cajuns shot much better, hitting on 48 percent
from the field, but they still had trouble from long distance, making just 3-
of-11 from beyond the arc. The Cougars shot 46.2 percent from the field in the
second half, including 6-of-13 from three-point range, as they were able to
cruise to victory.
The Cougars won the battle of the boards, outrebounding the Cajuns, 43-34.
