Norman, OK (Sports Network) - Romero Osby pumped in 26 points to lift the
Oklahoma Sooners to an 83-70 decision over the West Virginia Mountaineers in
Big 12 Conference action at the Lloyd Noble Center on Wednesday.
Steven Pledger added 23 points and eight rebounds for the Sooners (20-9, 11-6
Big 12) as they earned their fourth win in five games. Sam Grooms also got
into the mix with eight points, 10 assists and two steals.
Eron Harris led WVU (13-17, 6-11) with 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the
floor. Deniz Kilicli chipped in 20 points while Aaric Murray tallied 10 off
Oklahoma took control early on as it build a 10-1 lead less than three minutes
after tip-off. The Sooners took a 39-28 lead into the intermission after they
knocked down 47.8 percent of their field goal tries and converted 12-of-14 at
the charity stripe. The Mountaineers were held to 39.3 percent shooting from
the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
Although WVU heated up to hit on 69.6 percent of its shots from the field
including 7-of-11 from beyond the arc, Oklahoma held on to its halftime lead
by converting 9-of-13 at the free-throw line to complete the wire-to-wire
Oklahoma enjoyed a 33-25 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored WVU,
21-6, at the free-throw line.
