Columbia, SC (Sports Network) - Lakeem Jackson scored a season-high 16 points to lead the South Carolina Gamecocks to a 74-69 victory over the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a non-conference tilt at Colonial Life Arena.

Jackson made 8-of-11 shots and grabbed seven rebounds for South Carolina (7-3) which won its second straight contest after dropping the previous two. Mindaugas Kacinas registered his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 boards while Brenton Williams chipped in 11 points off the bench.

For the Mountaineers (2-8), Jay Canty, Mike Neal and Tevin Baskin all tallied 16 points. Neal added seven boards and seven assists in a game-high 36 minutes.

The Gamecocks led for the duration of the first half until a Canty jumper gave the Mountaineers a one-point advantage with less than a minute remaining. Bruce Ellington hit a three-pointer moments later and South Carolina led 37-35 at halftime.

South Carolina was unable to pull away but used 7-0 and 9-0 runs midway through the period to take control of the game. Trailing by just three with six seconds remaining, Nathan Healy attempted a game-tying three for ASU but was off the mark. LaShay Page made two free throws to seal the win for USC.

The Gamecocks have never lost to the Mountaineers in four matchups.
