Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Travis Wallace came up just shy of a double-
double with 22 points and nine rebounds to help the North Florida Ospreys earn
an 80-70 victory over the Cal State-Bakersfield Roadrunners in the third round
of the 2012 Las Vegas Classic at Orleans Arena.
Charles McRoy added 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting off the bench for North
Florida (4-8) and Parker Smith chipped in 13 points. The Ospreys advance to
take on Georgia Southern on Saturday.
Brandon Barnes tallied a team-high 21 points for the Roadrunners (4-8).
Stephon Carter contributed 18 points and eight rebounds while Tyrone White and
Javante Maynor scored 11 points each. Cal State-Bakersfield will face
Mississippi Valley State in the consolation round.
North Florida took a 37-30 lead into halftime after it hit 58.2 percent of its
field goal attempts in the first period. CSUB fell behind after shooting just
40.7 percent from the floor in the opening half.
The Ospreys' bench gave it a lift after the break by outscoring the
Roadrunners' reserves, 20-7, over the final 20 minutes. North Florida led by a
double-digit margin for the majority of the second half.
The Ospreys outscored CSUB, 22-12, at the free throw line as both sides pulled
down 30 rebounds in the bout.
