=== MSU gives Dantonio raise, extra year ===
East Lansing, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Michigan State gave football coach Mark
Dantonio an annual raise of $1.65 million and added one year to the five-year
contract he signed in 2011.
The amended contract was announced on Tuesday by the university and increases
Dantonio's annual compensation from $1.99 million to $3.65 million.
Dantonio has led Michigan State to a school-record seven straight bowl games
and is 64-29 in his seven seasons as coach.
The Spartans beat Stanford in the Rose Bowl last month -- the program's first
BCS appearance -- and ended the season No. 3 in the Associated Press poll.
"Continuity has been and will continue to be an important ingredient for the
sustained success of our football program," MSU athletic director Mark Hollis
said in a statement. "The increased compensation isn't simply a reward for
past performance but signifies our expectation for continued excellence."
Under the new six-year rollover contract, Dantonio's base salary was increased
from $682,905 to $2 million per year, his supplemental income from $869,000 to
$1 million and a contingent annual base from $200,000 to $286,000. He receives
$204,917 in benefits.
He will continue to draw $100,000 from a shoe and apparel agreement and
$50,000 in guaranteed performance incentives. He will have access to a private
airplane for 25 hours of personal use.
Dantonio's assistant coaches received a total of $785,000 in raises.
The highest-paid among them, assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Pat
Narduzzi, will be paid $904,583 per year.
