National League Game Summary - Atlanta at Miami

(Sunday, June 1st)

Final Score: Atlanta 4, Miami 2

Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Evan Gattis scorched a tiebreaking two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning and the Atlanta Braves completed a three- game sweep of the Miami Marlins with a 4-2 win Sunday at Marlins Park.

Miami closer Steve Cishek (4-2) replaced starter Nathan Eovaldi to start the ninth with the game tied 2-2. Freddie Freeman opened the frame with a single before Gattis jumped on a 2-0 fastball and launched it into the home-run sculpture in center field.

"I got a pitch I could handle," Gattis said of his homer. "If he throws those first two pitches for strikes it might be a different story, but I just got a pitch I could handle."

Shae Simmons, who made his major league debut Saturday, then stranded runners on first and second in the ninth to nail down his first big league save.

Alex Wood (5-5) picked up the victory after spinning 1 1/3 perfect innings in relief of starter Aaron Harang, who held the Marlins to two runs on five hits and four walks over 6 2/3 frames.

Jason Heyward and B.J. Upton added an RBI apiece for the Braves, who had lost four straight games to fall into a tie with the Marlins atop the NL East before sweeping this three-game set.

Marcell Ozuna stroked a two-run homer in the setback, while Eovaldi allowed just two runs on six hits with four strikeouts over eight innings.

"I felt like this is the best I've located my fastball all season," Eovaldi said. "I was just trying to attack and get quick outs."

Ozuna provided Eovaldi with an early lead in the second when he followed Garrett Jones' leadoff double with a drive over the wall in left-center field to make it 2-0 Miami.

Atlanta answered in the third, as Tommy La Stella and Andrelton Simmons started the frame with back-to-back singles before Harang's sacrifice bunt advanced both runners.

Heyward then ripped a single to right to plate La Stella before Upton's run- scoring groundout tied the game at 2-2.

After Gattis clubbed his 11th homer of the season to give Atlanta a 4-2 lead in the ninth, Ozuna opened the home half with a single, but Simmons induced a 6-4-3 double-play groundout from Adeiny Hechavarria.

The Atlanta right-hander then walked Jeff Mathis and served up a single to pinch-hitter Reed Johnson before grounding out Christian Yelich to end the game.
