(Saturday, December 29)

Final Score: Purdue 73, William & Mary 66

West Lafayette, IN (Sports Network) - Terone Johnson scored 16 points and A.J. Hammons added 14, as the Purdue Boilermakers fended off the William & Mary Tribe, 73-66, in non-conference play at Mackey Arena.

Ronnie Johnson chipped in with 11 points and seven assists for the Boilermakers (6-6), where were playing their first game action since Dec. 18.

The Tribe (7-4) entered winners of four straight, their longest winning streak since 2009-10, but fell despite a game-high 21 points from Marcus Thornton. Tim Rusthoven added 16 points and seven rebounds, Kyle Gaillard scored 12, and Brandon Britt finished with 11 points in the loss.

Purdue led throughout much of the first half, but the Tribe went on a late 7-0 surge to take a 40-39 lead into the break. Gaillard sparked the run with a 3- pointer and a pair of free throws.

The teams continued to battle back and forth until just under the eight-minute mark of the second half, when Jacob Lawson broke a 58-58 tie with a layup to give Purdue the lead for good. The Boilermakers closed out the contest by out- scoring the Tribe, 13-8.

Purdue did a better job of getting to the charity stripe, as the Boilermakers held a key 14-5 scoring advantage at the foul line for the game.
