American League Preview from The Sports Network

Monday, May 26th (All times Eastern)

Cleveland Indians (24-27) at Chicago White Sox (25-27), 2:10 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Cleveland - Josh Tomlin (3-1, 2.91) Chicago - Jose Quintana (2-4, 3.67)

(SportsNetwork.com) - Jose Quintana hopes for some run support on Monday when the Chicago White Sox open a three-game series with the Cleveland Indians at U.S. Cellular Field.

Quintana posted a quality start on Wednesday in Kansas City, but absorbed the loss, as he allowed three runs and eight hits in 7 1/3 innings of his team's 3-1 setback. It was his fourth loss in his last five decisions and dropped him to 2-4 on the year to go along with a 3.67 ERA.

The lefty gave up a run in six innings in a no-decision against the Tribe earlier in the year, but is 2-0 with a 3.09 ERA in six career starts against them.

Quintana will be trying to help his White Sox bounce back from a pair of losses to the New York Yankees. Chicago had won the first two in the four-game set, but lost the next two, including a 7-1 setback in Sunday's finale.

Andre Rienzo (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season, as he struck out seven, but was reached for five runs -- four earned -- over his five innings of work.

"He wasn't getting ahead. This was a day that he just wasn't as sharp as he's been in previous outings, so it cost him," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said of Rienzo.

Cleveland, meanwhile, also split a four-game series over the weekend, but failed to capture their set with the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, as it fell, 4-2, in Sunday's finale at Camden Yards.

Michael Bourn had two of the Indians five hits, as they fell for only the second time in seven games.

Trevor Bauer (1-2) racked up eight strikeouts in just 4 1/3 innings for Cleveland, but surrendered all four Baltimore runs.

"I felt good all day, I just couldn't throw the fastball where I wanted to," said Bauer. "I was trying to go in with it and it was up and away -- that's what happens."

Getting the call for Cleveland on Monday will be righty Josh Tomlin, who hasn't started since May 17, but is 3-1 on the year with a 2.91 ERA. Tomlin picked up a win in relief on Wednesday and gave up a run and two hits in three innings.

Tomlin has faced the White Sox three times and is 0-1 against them with a 4.42 ERA.

Cleveland won 17 of its 19 matchups with the White Sox last season, but Chicago has gone 4-3 in the series this season.
