Stanford routs UC Davis to start season

Stanford, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Hogan threw three first half touchdowns and ran in another as No. 11 Stanford rolled to a 45-0 win over UC Davis to kick off its 2014 season.

Hogan got to rest for the second half after building a commanding lead over the first 30 minutes. The senior co-captain completed 12-of-16 passes for 204 yards with an interception.

Ty Montgomery returned a punt for a touchdown and was one of four players with a receiving score for Stanford (1-0), which is hoping to win its third straight Pac-12 conference championship. Christian McCaffrey, Michael Rector and tight end Austin Hooper also caught touchdowns.

McCaffrey's touchdown came on his first career touch.

Fifth-year senior kicker Jordan Williamson made a field goal and six extra points while becoming the program's all-time scoring leader.

UC Davis (0-1), an FCS program, never got its offense going against the Cardinal. Quarterback London Lacy was intercepted twice and finished with just 54 yards passing, while Justin Williams and Colton Silveria gained 36 and 34 yards, respectively, on the ground.

Montgomery gave Stanford a quick lead, taking a punt back 60 yards for an explosive touchdown. It was the first punt return TD for Montgomery, who has three kickoff return scores over his career.

Later in the first, Hogan led a 12-play drive that spanned more than seven minutes and finished it himself, taking it in from a yard out.

Hogan was picked off early in the second quarter, but the Stanford defense stepped up and gave its offense the ball right back. Wayne Lyons deflected a Lacy pass attempt and Peter Kalambayi grabbed it for his first career interception. The Cardinal failed to capitalize however, with a sack on Hogan leading to a quick three-and-out.

Following an Aggies punt on their next drive, Hogan went up top to Rector for a 40-yard touchdown. From there, Stanford was on cruise control for the rest of the half.

Hogan added deep touchdown throws to McCaffrey and Montgomery before Williamson capped a dominant second quarter with a 32-yard field goal as the clock expired.

Stanford coasted into halftime with a 38-0 lead.

With most of the Stanford's starters removed from the contest, the second half didn't feature nearly as much action as the first. Evan Crower, who replaced Hogan under center, found Hooper in the back of the end zone from 14 yards out midway through the fourth to round out the scoring.

Crower went 8-for-13 passing with 95 yards and the touchdown.
