GAME NOTES: A pair of struggling Big Ten teams with the conference's leading scorers meet tonight, as the Indiana Hoosiers host the Penn State Nittany Lions at Assembly Hall.

Indiana comes into tonight's game with just a 4-6 record in the conference, having lost to Minnesota on Saturday, 66-60.

Yogi Ferrell scored 14 points to pace the Hoosiers, who led 56-53 with 5:54 to play but saw the Golden Gophers score 13 of the game's final 17 points. Noah Vonleh added 12 points and 12 rebounds for Indiana, which blew a double- digit lead to fall for the fourth time in six outings.

Ferrell is the conference's second-leading scorer with 17.6 ppg. Meanwhile, Vonleh adds 11.7 ppg and a conference-best 9.5 rpg.

While Indiana averages 74 ppg on 45 percent shooting, it does play strong defensively. The Hoosiers, who are an impressive 12-2 at home, allow only 66 ppg.

Penn State comes in with a 3-8 mark in conference play, fresh off consecutive losses. On Sunday, the Nittany Lions fell to Illinois, 60-55. D.J. Newbill scored 19 points to lead Penn State, which had won three in a row before its recent slide. Tim Frazier added 11 points and became the program's all-time assists leader with 602.

The game was close throughout. After playing to a 31-31 tie at halftime, Penn State used a 7-0 run more than midway through the second half to take a 52-49 edge. However, the Illini scored the next five points to take the lead for good.

Trailing by two with less than a minute to play, Newbill converted just one shot from the charity stripe to set the score at 54-53, but the Illini closed out the game on a 6-2 stretch to secure the win.

Newbill leads the Big Ten and Nittany Lions, who are 3-5 on the road overall, in scoring with 17.7 ppg and a team-leading 5.4 rpg. Frazier adds 16.2 ppg, a league-leading 6.0 apg and 4.6 rpg, as Penn State averages 74 ppg on 44 percent shooting as a team.

Expect a showcase for Newbill and Ferrell in this contest. However, don't expect Penn State to put up too much of a fight. Indiana is great at home and the Nittany Lions struggle on the road. The Hoosiers have dominated this series (34-9) and have won the last six meetings. Don't expect anything different here in the only meeting of the season between these two schools.
