NCAA Game Summary - Central Michigan at Eastern Michigan

Ypsilanti, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Karrington Ward scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds as the Eastern Michigan Eagles clipped the Central Michigan Chippewas, 72-60, in the first round of the 35th annual Mid-American Conference Tournament at the Convocation Center.
Ward, who led four starters in double figures, connected on 6-of-9 shots behind the 3-point line for the sixth-seeded Eagles (19-13). Daylen Harrison pitched in with 13 points, followed by Raven Lee and Mike Talley with 11 points apiece, the latter handing out eight assists along the way.
The Chippewas (10-21) were led by John Simons who registered a double-double for the 11th-seeded squad with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, followed by Blake Hibbitts and Austin Keel with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
CMU came out flat in the first half, shooting only 34.6 percent from the floor, including 3-of-14 behind the 3-point line, yet trailed by only three points at the break, 27-24. The Eagles also struggled on the perimeter, converting a mere 3-of-12 attempts.
In the second half Eastern Michigan not only connected on 51.7 percent from the floor, but also 9-of-16 (.563) on the outside in order to put some distance between itself and the visitors.
With the victory the Eagles, who scored 24 points off turnovers on the night, will now take on the Miami-Ohio RedHawks in the second round on Wednesday night.
