Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Andell Cumberbatch and Matthew Wright each finished with 18 points to lead the St. Bonaventure Bonnies over the Fordham Rams, 76-65, in an Atlantic 10 Conference bout at Rose Hill Gym.
For the Bonnies (14-10, 4-6 A-10), Dion Wright added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Branden Frazier and Mandell Thomas both scored 20 points to lead the Rams (9-14, 2-8), while Jon Severe chipped in with 13 points. Frazier added a team- high seven assists in the loss.
St. Bonaventure was hot from the field to start the game, connecting on 54.8 percent of its shots, though just 2-of-10 from beyond the arc, as the Bonnies went into halftime with a 39-33 lead. Fordham struggled from the field in the first, shooing just 39.3 percent despite knocking down 5-of-13 from 3-point range.
After the break, the Bonnies' shooting cooled off, as they made 43.3 percent of their shots from the floor. The Rams stayed cold from the field in the second, hitting on just 44 percent, including 3-of-11 from 3-point range. The Rams got as close as three early in the half, but the Bonnies were able to pull away and hold back the home team down the stretch to escape with the win.
The Bonnies dominated in the front court, outscoring the Rams in the paint, 44-26, and outrebounding them, 40-28. St. Bonaventure forced 17 Fordham turnovers and converted them into 24 points.
