San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Rakeem Buckles logged a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds for the FIU Panthers as they topped the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, 80-72, in Conference USA action at the Convocation Center.
Dennis Mavin notched 16 points for the Panthers (13-12, 5-5 C-USA), who have won two of their last three games. Tymell Murphy (13 points), Dominique Williams (11) and Cody Mann (10) also scored in double figures.
Edrico McGregor netted 16 points to lead the Roadrunners (7-16), 3-7), who dropped their fourth straight. Devon Agusi and Keon Lewis added 13 and 12 points, respectively. Jordan Sims grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Roadrunners shot 45.5 percent from the field in the first half to the Panthers' 45.2 percent. From beyond the arc, however, the Panthers knocked down 5-of-14 and their opponent, just 1-of-8. FIU led 38-32 at halftime.
The Panthers improved to 52 percent from the floor in the second half, while their opponent dipped to 36.1 percent, including just 2-of-10 from 3-point range.
FIU outscored the hosts, 14-3, in points off turnovers and never trailed in the contest.
