Manhattan, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Rosenberg finished with a game-high 22 points to lead the Columbia Lions to a 74-55 victory over the Penn Quakers in an Ivy League bout at Levien Gymnasium.
For the Lions (19-11, 8-5 Ivy), Cory Osetkowski added 14 points and nine rebounds, while Steve Frankoski and Maodo Lo each scored 12.
Fran Dougherty led the Quakers (7-19, 4-8) with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Miles Cartwright chipped in with 10 points.
Columbia was accurate from the field to start the game, shooting 50 percent, including an impressive 7-of-12 from beyond the arc. Leading 16-13 midway through the first, the Lions used an 11-3 run to build a double-digit lead and take a 40-30 advantage into intermission. They held Penn to just 32 percent shooting from the field, as the Quakers missed all but one of their eight tries from 3-point range in the half.
After halftime, the Lions cooled off from the field, shooting just 39.1 percent, but still managed to connect on 5-of-13 from deep. Penn improved to 42.9 percent shooting from the floor, but continued to have problems from the perimeter, making just 1-of-5 from beyond the arc. Columbia saw its lead grow to as many as 26 points in the second half, as the Lions coasted to the easy win.
Columbia outscored Penn from beyond the arc, 36-6, and finished with nearly as many made 3-pointers (12) as Penn had 3-point attempts (13). The Quakers struggled from the free-throw line, making just 19-of-30 from the charity stripe in the game.
