Description: Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in the heartbreaking 12th inning loss to the Cubs on Friday.
Insight: The ball was flying out in Wrigley on Friday, so there were five home runs in the game. McCutchen hit a three-run shot in the eighth to bring the Pirates within a run. At one point, Pittsburgh trailed by six, but they tied it in the ninth to send the game to extras. Chicago, however, won in the 12th on a freak play where Gregory Polanco slipped and couldn't make a catch for the second out.

Description: Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen went 2-for-4 with a two-run blast in the, 7-2, victory over the Phillies on Tuesday.
Insight: McCutchen started slow, but a lot of experts speculated that was due to a knee issue he was dealing with in April. He looks healthy now as he has gone 9-for-22 (.409) in his last six games. If owners still want to try and buy low on McCutchen, better do that soon because he is trending upwards.

Description: Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen is back in the lineup on Sunday and should be started in all leagues. He is 13-for-41 with two home runs and eight RBI in his career against Brewers starter Kyle Lohse.
Insight: McCutchen missed Saturday's game due to knee soreness. He admitted after the game that his knee was what caused him to miss 10 games during Spring Training according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. That, however, remains a minor concern for now as McCutchen returns to the lineup. It was apparently sore enough that it forced McCutchen from the game in the ninth inning, so given his importance to the team so he'll rest Saturday.

4/6/2015 7:32:00 PM
Description: Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the eighth, but the Pirates fell to the Reds on Opening Day, 5-2.
Insight: McCutchen nearly had a huge day, but in the first inning, Reds third baseman Todd Frazier robbed him on a hit down the line that would have likely been extra bases. Any owners who were worried McCutchen wasn't truly healthy coming into the season will probably sleep well tonight.

4/1/2015 10:06:00 PM
Description: Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen slipped on home plate and didn't run to first during his last at-bat of Wednesday's Spring Training game.
Insight: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, however, reported after the game that McCutchen said he is fine while also saying "I think I made the team already." It's nice for the center fielder to joke about this, but he had fantasy owners and Pirates fans quite worried. Owners can let out a sign of relief.

3/23/2015 12:49:00 PM
Description: Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen is expected to return to the field on Tuesday, according to Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Insight: McCutchen has been out since March 12 with "lower body soreness," whatever that means. Fantasy owners should be a little concerned, but if you plan to invest a top first-round pick in McCutchen, this shouldn't stop you. At least not if he comes back soon enough to get some at-bats before the season begins.

10/1/2014 10:26:00 AM
Description: Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen is 2-for-10 in his career against Giants starter Madison Bumgarner.
Insight: McCutchen finished the regular season with a .314 average, 25 home runs, 83 RBI, 89 runs and 18 stolen bases. He will have to perform well if the Pirates hope to make a deep playoff run, but the Pittsburgh offense is much more potent and balanced this season than a year ago.

Description: Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen blasted his 25th homer of the season Wednesday against Atlanta.

9/22/2014 10:08:00 PM
Description: Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen hit a solo home run to defeat the Braves, 1-0, on Monday.
Insight: The reigning National League MVP is making his case to win the award again. McCutchen took Braves starter Aaron Harang deep in the top of the sixth for the only run of the game. McCutchen's numbers, .310 average and 76 RBI, are slightly down from a season ago, .317 average and 84 RBI, but he has hit three more home runs in 2014, and it is still hard to argue any player is more important to a National League club than McCutchen. He is hitting .308 with 23 homers 81 runs, 75 RBI and 17 stolen bases. He's also 5-for-5 in stolen bases against Gallardo anytime he gets on.
