Reds' Ludwick injures shoulder

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Cincinnati Reds outfielder Ryan Ludwick suffered a dislocated right shoulder when sliding into third base during the season opener against the Angels on Monday.

In the third inning, Ludwick went from first to third on Jered Weaver's wild pitch and went into the bag head-first. He slid in safely but was clutching his arm as he got to his feet and left the game for a pinch-runner.

The club announced he will have an MRI on Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury.

Ludwick was a major component of the Reds' run to last season's National League Central title, clubbing 26 homers and knocking in 80 runs while batting .275 over 125 games. The home run total was the second-highest of his 10-year major league career.

He signed a two-year deal with Cincinnati in the offseason.

Ludwick, 34, is a career .263 hitter with 143 homers in stops with Texas, Cleveland, St. Louis, San Diego, Pittsburgh and the Reds.
