NCAA Game Summary - San Francisco vs. Loyola Marymount

(Friday, March 2)

Final Score: San Francisco 67, Loyola Marymount 60

Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Michael Williams scored 19 points and handed out four assists to push the fifth-seeded San Francisco Dons to a 67-60 victory over the fourth-seeded Loyola Marymount Lions in the quarterfinals of the 2012 West Coast Conference Tournament.

Cody Doolin finished with 16 points and seven rebounds for San Francisco (20-12), while Cole Dickerson added 10 points off the bench. The Dons will advance to battle the WCC No. 1 seed Saint Mary's in the semifinal round on Saturday.

Ashley Hamilton scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace the Lions (19-12). Anthony Ireland chipped in 13 points and five assists. Every member of the league, with the exception of the newly added BYU Cougars, has won a conference tourney championship since Loyola Marymount last won it in 1990.

The Lions took a slight 35-34 lead into the intermission after they shot 48.3 percent from the floor in the opening period. San Francisco kept it close by hitting 40.6 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half.

Loyola Marymount cooled off after the break as it made just 32.1 percent of its field goals in the second half. The Dons took the lead for good at 47-46 when Dickerson made a layup with 11:26 left to play. Ireland made a pair of free throws and a Jarrod DuBois made a three-pointer to make it 61-58 with 1:39 left, but the Dons would allow the Lions to get no closer the rest of the way.

Three-point shooting was the deciding factor, as San Francisco was able to advance behind an 11-of-26 shooting performance from beyond the arc. Loyola Marymount connected on just 4-of-15 from deep.
