NCAA Game Summary - Air Force vs. New Mexico

(Thursday, March 8th)

Final Score: New Mexico 79, Air Force 64

Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Demetrius Walker scored a career-high 19 points, Drew Gordon had 15 and New Mexico used a big first half run Thursday to beat Air Force, 79-64, and advance to the semifinals of the Mountain West Tournament.

Kendall Williams added 13 points and Tony Snell had 10 for the second-seeded Lobos (25-6), who moved on to face third-seeded UNLV.

The semifinals are Friday. The first one was set earlier Thursday when No. 1 seed San Diego State beat Boise State and fourth-seeded Colorado State topped TCU.

Michael Lyons led Air Force (13-16) with 17 points, Kyle Green scored 14 and Todd Fletcher had 12. The seventh-seeded Falcons lost their final five games of the season and went 2-6 after Jeff Reynolds was fired as head coach Feb. 8.

New Mexico has won three in a row. The Lobos shared the regular seasons title with San Diego State after both went 10-4 in conference play, but SDSU got the No. 1 seed by way of a tiebreaker.

The Lobos trailed 15-14 inside 11 minutes remaining in the first half, then closed the period on a 31-16 run to take control for good.

They set records for free throws attempted and made in a Mountain West tourney game, going 23-of-27 in the half. It was a new record for free throws attempts in one half in a tournament game and a new mark for converted free throws in a first half.

New Mexico's 15-point margin of victory was its biggest in a tournament game. The Lobos won despite being out-shot 50 percent to 46.5.
