NCAA Game Summary - New Mexico State at Fresno State

(Saturday, March 3)

Final Score: New Mexico State 83, Fresno State 78 (OT)

Fresno, CA (Sports Network) - Wendell McKines registered another double-double as he tallied 20 points and a career-high 18 rebounds to lead the New Mexico State Aggies to an 83-78 overtime win against the Fresno State Bulldogs in Western Athletic Conference action at the Save Mart Center.

Also scoring in double figures for the Aggies (23-9, 10-4 WAC) were Bandja Sy and Tyrone Watson with 22 and 11 points, respectively, as they closed the regular season with six wins in the last seven outings.

The Bulldogs (13-19, 3-11) were paced by Kevin Olekaibe who tallied a game- high 23 points as he shot 5-of-8 behind the three-point line, but just 6-of-17 from the floor overall. Kevin Foster pitched in with 20 points, nine boards and four blocked shots off the bench, followed by Tyler Johnson with 16 points in the setback.

NMSU was rather cold shooting the ball in the first half as the team made just eight total field goals, allowing the hosts to post a 41-25 lead at the break. The Bulldogs shot an impressive 53.6 percent from the field through the first 20 minutes of action.

In the second half the Aggies came storming back on the strength of 50.0 percent shooting from the floor and it wasn't until the last minute of regulation that the first tie of the game took place thanks to a three-pointer by FSU's Jonathan Wills. McKines had a chance to give the victory to the visitors, but he missed a late jumper and that sent the meeting into overtime tied at 67-67.

In the extra session NMSU drilled 3-of-4 shots behind the three-point line and 5-of-6 at the free-throw line in order to claim the win.

New Mexico State turned the ball over 15 times on the night, but made up for those miscues by outscoring Fresno State by a margin of 22-11 at the free- throw line.
