Marray and Nielsen capture Wimbledon doubles title

Wimbledon, England (Sports Network) - Jonathan Marray of Britain and Frederik Nielsen of Denmark beat Robert Lindstedt of Sweden and Horia Tecau of Romania 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 to capture the men's doubles title at Wimbledon on Saturday.

Marray and Nielsen became the first men's wild card pair in Wimbledon history to hoist the doubles title.

They defeated four seeded teams en route to the trophy, including a shocking triumph against defending champions Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan in the semifinals.

Marray is the first British man to win a men's doubles title at Wimbledon since 1936. Andy Murray will attempt to end Britain's 76-year singles drought Sunday as he clashes with Roger Federer in the men's final.

Lindstedt and Tecau lost in the men's doubles final for the third straight year. They are the second team in the Open Era to lose in their first three Wimbledon finals since Bob Lutz and Stan Smith fell in 1974, 1980 and 1981.
