Description: Pittsburgh wideout Plaxico Burress had rotator cuff surgery on Monday. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Obviously, he's done for the season. Even if Burress had stayed healthy, his fantasy impact would have been minimal.
8/9/2013 11:50:00 AM
Description: Veteran Steelers receiver Plaxico Burress suffered a season-ending torn rotator cuff in Thursday's practice.
Insight: At his age (36 on Monday), it could also be career-ending. The Steelers are a bit shorthanded at receiver with Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders and Jerricho Cotchery the only guys with any experience. They might be looking for wide receiver help if the youngsters don't progess during the exhibition season.

Description: Veteran receiver Plaxico Burress has agreed to rejoin the Pittsburgh Steelers. Burress played for the Steelers from 2000 to 2004.
Insight: The Steelers are a bit shorthanded at receiver right now with Antonio Brown and Jerricho Cotchery both labeled as questionable for Sunday's tilt in Cleveland. Burress gives the team a little more depth but we're guessing he won't be worth a start in fantasy this week, especially with journeyman Charlie Batch getting the start at quarterback.
8/12/2012 4:15:00 PM
Description: Free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress flew to Massachusetts Sunday for a tryout with the New England Patriots.
Insight: Pretty ironic that New England is considering adding a player who had a crucial role in ruining its perfect season back in 2007. It's hard to imagine that Burress would get many targets in an offense that already includes Wes Welker, Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Brandon Lloyd and Jabar Gaffney, so stay away from drafting Burress if he does indeed become a Patriot.

Description: Josh Ellis of Dallas Cowboys Star Magazine says a source told him that the Cowboys "aren't even thinking about" signing free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress.
Insight: Burress' agent Drew Rosenhaus claims he had discussions with the Cowboys about possibly adding Burress but apparently a deal was never in place. Burress hasn't attracted much interest on the market this summer because of his age and high contract demands, though he's likely to become more flexible about those salary requirements if he remains unsigned in the coming weeks.

Description: Free agent wide out Plaxico Burress says he is interested in playing for Carolina next season but apparently, the feeling isn't mutual. The Charlotte Observer reports that the Panthers have no interest in signing the former Steelers, Giants and Jets receiver.
Insight: Burress didn't collect a whole lot of yards (612) last season but he was still plenty useful in fantasy with his eight touchdown catches. He'll find a home somewhere but for now, it doesn't look like that place will be Carolina.
2/14/2011 1:00:00 AM
Description: Burress is due to be released from prison June 6, and the New York Post reports that agent Drew Rosenhaus says Burress is in great shape.
Insight: Burress will turn 34 before the season starts, but that's certainly not an age that precludes him from playing quality NFL football. Quite a few questions must be answered before we can project anything for 2011, but if he's signed, he'll be worth a fantasy pick at some point. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Pro Football Talk.com reports Burress' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is fully confident his client will play in the NFL in 2011.
Insight: Burress will turn 34 in August and will have missed two seasons, so it's unknown if any team would be interested in signing him. (RapidDraft.com)
8/4/2010 2:36:00 PM
Description: The NY Post reports Burress will be released from prison within "two or three weeks" with good behavior.
Insight: Even if this proves true, it's no guarantee when or if Burress would be reinstated into the NFL. (Rapid Draft.com)
7/2/2010 7:06:00 PM
Description: The NY Daily News reports Burress has again applied for work release from prison.
Insight: Burress is nine months into a two-year sentence for his felony gun conviction. He previously applied for work release in November, and was denied. (SportsBuff.com)
2/3/2010 7:52:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN.com, Burress, in an interview with CBS, vowed to play in the NFL again.
Insight: Burress suggested he is working out four times a week in prison. He could be released as early as the spring of 2011, but he will be 34 with over two seasons worth of missed time. Some one may take a chance on him, but he seems unlikely to be an impact player again. (SportsBuff.com0
9/22/2009 11:40:00 AM
Description: Burress has been sentenced to two years in prison for accidentally shooting himself in an New York City nightclub in November 2008.
Insight: Burress doesn't appear to have an NFL future, as he will be have missed two full seasons and will be 34 years of age (or 33 possibly if he gets out with good behavior) when he is released. (SportsBuff.com)
8/20/2009 11:32:00 AM
Description: According to the New York Times, Burress has pleaded guilty to felony weapons charges in Manhattan on Thursday morning, and was sentenced to two years in prison.
Insight: Burress has no fantasy value for this year obviously and 2010, at minimum. (SportsBuff.com)
8/18/2009 2:28:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Burress could be suspended from the NFL for one year.
Insight: If Burress is on your fantasy radar at all right now, this news should change that. (SportsBuff.com)
8/3/2009 4:09:00 PM
Description: Burress has reportedly been indicted on felony weapon charges stemming from his incident in November 2008.
Insight: Burress faces almost certain jailtime, and barring a plea bargain is headed for a trial. It goes without saying he shouldn't be on any NFL team's radar now, and he likewise should not be on your fantasy radar.
7/23/2009 10:33:00 PM
Description: The New York Daily News reports that commissioner Roger Goodell plans to meet with Burress soon and decide on whether to discipline the receiver for the coming season.
Insight: Burress' gun charges are still pending, and he has received no suspension as of yet. He also has no team right now. If the commish decides against benching him, a suitor would likely show up pretty quickly. Many seem to think that Burress could be in line to lose as much as half of the 2009 season, though. We'll see. (SportsBuff.com)
Cold7/4/2009 10:33:00 AM
Description: The Bears and Jets, two potential suitors for Burress, have backed away from the troubled wide receiver.
Insight: While it might seem like the smart move to take a last round flyer on Burress, it looks like the odds of him playing are getting slimmer. (SportsBuff.com)
6/15/2009 11:18:00 AM
Description: After Monday's hearing in Burress' gun case, another hearing will not come up until September. ProFootballTalk.com reports that almost definitely means a trial date some time in 2010. "If, after all, the prosecution were planning to attempt to block Burress from playing football this year by dropping a trial between, say, Week Nine and Week Ten, they?d be banging the table now for a trial date," writes PFT's Mike Florio.
Insight: PFT also passed along a reported quote from Roger Goodell, saying Burress won't face league action until the completion of the criminal case. In light of all this, we should expect Burress to be playing for someone this fall. Daring fantasy owners can find good value on him at this early stage. (SportsBuff.com)
6/6/2009 4:28:00 PM
Description: The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Jay Cutler, Devin Hester and Desmond Clark have all professed support for the idea of signing Burress.
Insight: The former Giant will certainly find a suitor somewhere if he can avoid prison time this season. Those in early drafts could find a steal in the double-digit rounds -- just make sure you don't draft Burress as a starter. (SportsBuff.com)
6/1/2009 10:28:00 AM
Description: ProFootballTalk.com reports that agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed in a TV interview Sunday that the Dolphins are not among the three teams to have expressed interest in Burress so far.
Insight: Burress made news by saying that he would like to play for the Dolphins, but the team has given no indication that is even possible. We'll see who he does finally sign with, assuming the gun case gets out of the way at some point. (SportsBuff.com)
