Ravens acquire OT Monroe from Jags

Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - The Baltimore Ravens announced Thursday that left tackle Eugene Monroe has passed his physical and is officially a member of the team after being acquired from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for draft picks.

"LT Eugene Monroe has passed his physical. The trade is official," said the Ravens' Twitter feed.

Taken by the Jaguars with the eighth overall pick of the 2009 draft, Monroe has been one of Jacksonville's steadiest players and has started 62 of the club's 68 games at left tackle since entering the NFL. The 26-year-old is in the final year of his rookie contract, however, and the Jaguars landed a potential replacement with last April's selection of rookie Luke Joeckel with the No. 2 overall choice.

Joeckel had been playing on the right side for Jacksonville, which has lost its first four games by a combined 129-31 margin.

In Baltimore, Monroe will likely supplant veteran Bryant McKinnie, who has been plagued by weight and consistency issues during his three-year tenure with the Ravens, at left tackle.

"He will be fun to coach," said Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell of Monroe according to the team's Twitter feed, which also gave McKinnie's reaction.

"Bryant McKinnie says there maybe could be a trade with him. Says he hasn't been told he's not the starter," said the Twitter feed.

The defending Super Bowl champion Ravens have allowed 12 sacks of quarterback Joe Flacco while splitting their first four games of the season.

To make room on the roster for Monroe, the Ravens released tight end Billy Bajema.

To replace Monroe on the roster, the Jaguars added wide receiver Jeremy Ebert to the 53-man roster and also added DeMarcus Love to practice squad
