Insight: Bumgarner only went four innings on Opening Day, though all four runs he gave up were unearned. The left-hander is still just 24 but he has thrown 200+ innings and fanned 191-199 batters in each of the last three seasons.

Insight: This isn't a huge surprise. He was San Francisco's best pitcher last season, going 13-9 with a 2.77 ERA and 199 strikeouts in 201 1/3 innings. Even Matt Cain acknowledged that he should get the honor.

Insight: San Francisco has to hope Bumgarner has corrected the mechanical flaw that has caused him to be ineffective since late August. In his last nine starts including the postseason, Bumgarner is 2-6 with a 6.85 ERA.

Insight: It looks like the 22-year-old will be in a Giants uniform for a long time. Bumgarner carries a 1-1 record with a 3.97 ERA so far in 2012.
