Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Mike Carp had three RBI and the Boston Red Sox wrapped up the AL East on Friday with a 6-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
After clinching a playoff spot Thursday, the Red Sox captured the division for the first time since 2007, and just a year removed from finishing in last place.
David Ortiz also drove in a run, while Daniel Nava was 2-for-5 with two runs scored for the Red Sox, who have won two straight and five of seven. Jon Lester (15-8) gave up a run on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts over seven innings.
Adam Lind hit a two-run homer and Rajai Davis was 2-for-5 with two runs scored for the Blue Jays, who have dropped seven of 10 and will finish the season in last place in the AL East. Esmil Rogers (5-8) gave up two runs on three hits and five walks in just 2 1/3 innings to take the loss.
Dustin Pedroia doubled to start the first for Boston, moved to third on a fly out and scored on a wild pitch for a quick 1-0 lead.
Boston made it a 2-0 game in the third as Carp worked a bases-loaded walk to score Nava.
In the fifth, Davis singled with two outs and then stole second and third. A single from Brett Lawrie made it a 2-1 game.
An RBI single from Ortiz in the seventh and a two-run base hit from Carp later in the frame padded Boston's lead to 5-1.
Toronto trimmed its deficit to two in the eighth as Davis doubled to start the frame and later scored on Lind's 23rd homer of the year to make it a 5-3 contest.
Pedroia, though, got a run back in the bottom of the eighth as his single scored Will Middlebrooks, who singled and stole second.
Koji Uehara, who got the final two outs of the eighth, pitched a scoreless ninth for his 20th save of the season.
Lester has won his past three decisions ... Toronto center fielder Colby Rasmus was pulled from the game during warmups after he was hit in the face by a ball ... Boston has won 10 of the 17 games against Toronto this season.
