NOTES:
The third installment of the Syncrude Boreal Open takes place this week, as Cory Renfrew defends his title.

This week's field includes 58 Canadians, 86 Americans and players from 16 countries including Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Guatemala, England, Scotland, Switzerland, Germany, Thailand, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Last year, Renfrew birdied the fourth playoff hole to defeat Matt Hill for his first Canadian Tour title. Hill had made an 8-foot birdie putt on the final hole of regulation to force the extra session. Both players parred the first three extra holes before Renfrew's winning birdie at the fourth.

Renfrew fired a final-round, course-record 63, while Hill shot 67, as the duo posted a new tournament record of 271, breaking the previous mark of 272 set by Danny Sahl in 2011. Hill had a chance to extend the playoff, but his 5-foot birdie try missed.

In 2011, Sahl, who won for the first time on the Canadian Tour, ended the tournament 16-under-par 272, winning by five shots over David Dragoo.

The tournament is being held at Fort McMurray Country Club for the third consecutive season, which was designed by Bill Newis and opened in 1988.

PGA Tour Canada moves to Manitoba next week for The Players Cup, as Chris Killmer defends his title.
