Georgia's Butler named Ray Guy Award winner
Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Georgia's Drew Butler won the 2009 Ray Gay Award as the nation's top collegiate punter.
Butler, a redshirt sophomore, had a sparkling season with a nation-leading 48.8 yard-average (10 or more games), including a long of 75 yards.
The other finalists for the award were Michigan's Zoltan Mesko and Florida's Chas Henry.
Mesko, a fifth-year senior, was the second Wolverine to be named a finalist for the award. Hayden Epstein was a finalist during the award's inaugural season (2000). Mesko established a Michigan record with a 44.5-yard average. He has 17 punts over 50 yards.
Henry, a junior, has punted 33 times for an average of 43.4 yards with a long of 61 this season. He has eight punts of over 50 yards.
Matt Fodge of Oklahoma State won the award last year.
