Yale QB Witt to play in 'The Game'
New Haven, CT (Sports Network) - Facing the choice of interviewing for a Rhodes Scholarship or starting at quarterback against rival Harvard, Yale senior quarterback Patrick Witt has elected to play in "The Game".
Yale announced Sunday that the most prolific passer in school history has withdrawn his application for the Rhodes Scholarship to make his third start against Harvard on Saturday.
The Rhodes Scholarship interviews will be held Saturday morning in Atlanta and the game in New Haven has a noon kickoff.
"I will be playing in the Yale-Harvard game this Saturday," Witt said. "I have withdrawn my application for the Rhodes Scholarship. My focus this week is solely on preparing for The Game alongside my teammates and coaches."
Witt, 22, from Atlanta, has a 3.91 GPA in history. This season, he has thrown for 2,142 yards and 16 touchdowns, ranking second in the Ivy League in both statistics.
This is the 128th meeting in the series. Harvard (8-1, 6-0) has clinched the Ivy title already and Yale (5-4, 4-2) is part of a three-way tie for second place.
The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest and one of the most prestigious international graduate scholarship awards, granted annually to students to conduct post-graduate work at the University of Oxford in England.
