Colts draft Villanova OL Ijalana
New York, NY (Sports Network) - The Indianapolis Colts selected Villanova offensive lineman Ben Ijalana in the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday - the first player selected from the Football Championship Subdivision.
Ijalana was selected 49th overall.
A left tackle at Villanova, the 6-foot-3, 317-pound Ijalana may shift inside to guard with the Colts
Ijalana, from Hainesport, N.J., never missed a start during his 53-game career at Villanova. He helped the Wildcats win the 2009 FCS national championship and earned All-America first-team honors as a junior and a senior.
He was 10th in the voting for the 2010 Walter Payton Award, which is given to the outstanding player in the FCS, presented by The Sports Network and sponsored by Fathead.com.
In addition to Ijalana's durability, scouts laud him for his disciplined style of play and thick body with long arms and large hands.
It's the second straight year than an offensive lineman from CAA Football was picked in the second round. The New York Jets took Massachusetts' Vladimir Ducasse.
