Final Score: Buffalo 29, Massachusetts 19

Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - Joe Licata completed 18-of-30 attempts for 226 yards and two touchdowns as the Buffalo Bulls overcame a double-digit deficit to defeat the Massachusetts Minutemen, 29-19, in a Mid-American Conference duel at Gillette Stadium.

Brandon Murie paced Buffalo (4-7, 3-4 MAC) on the ground with 90 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Alex Neutz reeled in a game-high nine receptions for 76 yards and a score while Fred Lee made an impact with three grabs for 93 yards. Khalil Mack anchored the Bulls' defensive unit with 15 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.

Mike Wegzyn had a difficult time while under center for UMass (1-10, 1-6). Wegzyn completed 50 percent of his passes for 215 yards and a touchdown, but he was intercepted twice and sacked eight times. Alan Williams pulled in seven receptions for 62 yards while Deion Walker caught five passes for a team-best 83 yards. Perry McIntyre recorded a team-high 13 tackles and a sack for the Minutemen.

The only points of the opening period came courtesy of a made 39-yard field goal by UMass place kicker Blake Lucas.

Lucas added a 32-yard field goal with just under six minutes left in the half to increase the Minutemen's advantage to six points. UMass extended its lead to 13-0 with under a minute remaining before the break when Wegzyn completed a 14- yard touchdown pass to Rob Blanchflower.

After the offense failed to put any points on the board in the opening half, the Bulls' special teams unit helped out as Kyn Minniefield returned a blocked punt 33 yards for a touchdown at the 10:31 mark of the third stanza.

The Minutemen responded at the mid-point of the third quarter with a touchdown of their own as Cox punched it in from three-yards out to give the home team a 19-7 advantage on the scoreboard.

Licata brought UB within striking distance with just over two minutes left before the final frame by punctuating an 11-play, 79-yard drive with a three- yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Gordon. The Bulls' first offensive touchdown of the contest cut their deficit to 19-14.

In the final quarter of play, Licata gave the Bulls their first lead of the contest by finding Alex Neutz in the end zone from six yards away. Murie added some insurance with a 12-yard touchdown run, which gave Buffalo a 29-19 advantage with only two minutes left on the clock.

Although it struggled to produce points early on in the contest, Buffalo amassed 405 yards of total offense. UMass averaged just 3.5 yards per play to gain 264 yards of total offense.
