Lafayette, LA (Sports Network) - Kawaun Jakes threw for a touchdown and ran
for two more, as the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers trounced the Louisiana
Ragin' Cajuns, 54-21, in a Sun Belt Conference affair at Cajun Field.
Jakes completed 18-of-22 pass attempts for 262 yards and added another 28
yards on the ground for WKU (1-6, 1-2 Sun Belt), which ended the nation's
longest losing streak at 26 games.
Chris Masson threw for 223 yards with one touchdown against two interceptions
for Louisiana (2-5, 2-3), while Brad McGuire scored twice on the ground.
The Toppers scored the only points of the opening quarter with a 20-yard field
goal from Casey Tinius.
WKU added to its lead early in the second quarter when Jamarcus Allen returned
a fumble 69 yards to paydirt.

The Toppers, though, rattled off the last 17 points of the half to take a 27-7
lead into the intermission. Jakes started things off with a one-yard plunge
for a score before Antonio Andrews scooted four yards for a touchdown. On the
last play of the half, Tinius booted a 47-yard field goal for WKU.
McGuire tried to keep the Cajuns in the game with a one-yard touchdown run
just after the break.
However, the Toppers responded with four consecutive touchdowns to put the
game out of reach. Things began with a one-yard touchdown run from Jakes, who
then tossed a 43-yard scoring strike to Demetrius Coley. Early in the fourth
quarter, Derrius Brooks returned an interception 62 yards for a score, and
Andrews followed with a 30-yard touchdown run for a 54-14 advantage.
The Cajuns closed the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run from McGuire.
