NCAA Game Summary - West Virginia at Louisville

(Saturday, November 20th)

Final Score: West Virginia 17, Louisville 10

Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - Noel Devine had 119 total yards and a touchdown, and the West Virginia defense did the rest as the Mountaineers earned a pivotal 17-10 win over the Louisville Cardinals in Big East action at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

West Virginia (7-3, 3-2 Big East) will battle Pittsburgh on Friday with the Big East title at stake. The win marked the Mountaineers' first conference road victory of the season, and they'll look to make it two in a row next week at Pitt.

The Cardinals (5-6, 2-4) now find themselves needing a win in Friday's regular-season finale at Rutgers in order to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2007.

Louisville got on the board first with a 43-yard field goal by Chris Philpott at the 9:59 mark of the opening quarter.

WVU answered with a 10-play, 78-yard drive, capped by Devine's two-yard touchdown run.

The Cardinals reclaimed the lead at the 10:26 mark of the second quarter thanks to their defense, as Daniel Brown recovered a fumble in the end zone following a sack and strip by teammate Rodney Gnat.

Four minutes later, the Mountaineers were back on top, as Ryan Clarke polished off an eight-play, 82-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown plunge.

A 43-yard field goal by WVU's Tyler Bitancurt at the 9:30 mark of the third quarter made it a 17-10 game, and the Mountaineers' defense held its ground the rest of the way.

Louisville's offense was held to a mere 171 total yards for the game.
