East Hartford, CT (Sports Network) - Jordan Todman carried 37 times for 190
yards and two touchdowns, as the Connecticut Huskies rallied for a 40-21 win
over the Vanderbilt Commodores in non-conference play at Rentschler Field.
Cody Endres completed 21-of-30 passes for 179 yards with two touchdowns and
one interception for UConn (3-2). He completed passes to eight different
receivers in the victory.
Larry Smith paced the Vanderbilt (1-3) attack with 157 yards and two
touchdowns on 15-of-25 passing, in addition to a team-high 64 rushing yards on
13 carries. However, Smith was also intercepted twice and sacked five times in
On the very first play of the game, Vanderbilt's Jonathan Krause lost a fumble
to set UConn up with the ball on the Commodores' 12-yard line. Three plays
later, Todman scored on a one-yard run to give UConn an early 7-0 lead.
The Huskies took a 14-0 lead at the 11:07 mark of the second quarter, when
Todman found the end zone again on an 11-yard run.
Two minutes later, Vandy cut the deficit to 14-7 on Smith's eight-yard
touchdown pass to Brandon Barden.
The Commodores knotted the score at 14-14 midway through the second quarter on
Smith's 48-yard scoring strike to Udom Umoh.
Vandy continued to ride the momentum, as Krause burst free for a 44-yard
touchdown scamper to give the Commodores a 21-14 lead with 5:26 to play until
UConn answered right back with a nine-play, 73-yard drive, which resulted in a
six-yard touchdown pass from Endres to Kashif Moore, tying the score at 21-21.
The Huskies took the lead on the opening drive of the second half, as Endres
found Corey Manning for a four-yard touchdown pass.
Huskies' kicker Dave Teggart added three more points on a 25-yard field goal
midway through the third quarter to make it a 31-21 game.
UConn extended its lead to 38-21 midway through the fourth quarter on a 44-
yard interception return by Blidi Wreh-Wilson. The Huskies later added a
safety for the final margin.
Todman has now eclipsed 100 yards rushing in seven of his last eight games
after missing last week's tilt against Buffalo with a left arm injury. The
Huskies scored on all five of their red-zone trips, while Vandy was just 1-
