Logan, UT (Sports Network) - Robert Turbin ran for 190 yards and scored a pair
of touchdowns to power the Utah State Aggies to a 24-9 victory over
the San Jose State Spartans in a Western Athletic Conference affair at Romney
Diondre Borel had an easy day under center for Utah State (3-7, 2-4 WAC), as
the Aggies committed to a ground attack that racked up 347 yards. Borel
completed seven passes on just 18 attempts for 50 yards in the win, while
Derrvin Speight ran for 70 yards and a score on just six carries.
Jordan La Secla paced San Jose State (1-8, 0-5), completing 18-of-34 for 216
yards in the losing effort.
The Aggies struck first in this one, as Turbin found the end zone following a
six-yard run early in the opening period of play.
The Aggies took a 14-0 lead into the break with a 35-yard Turbin run late in
the second quarter.
SJSU finally got on the board midway through the third period with a two-yard
plunge by Lamon Muldrow. A two-point conversion attempt failed.
The Spartans then pulled to within 14-9 late in the frame with a 31-yard Tyler
Cope field goal.
But the Aggies responded with 10 unanswered points in the final stanza,
beginning with a 40-yard Chris Ulinski kick. A six-yard run from Speight just
minutes later gave Utah State a 24-9 advantage and accounted for the final
score of the contest.
