NCAA Game Summary - Tulane at Rice

Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Tyler Smith rushed for 145 yards and a pair of scores to lead the Rice Owls to a 19-7 victory over the Tulane Green Wave in a Conference USA bout at Rice Stadium.
Nick Fanuzzi completed 16-of-24 passes for just 85 yards in the win for Rice (4-7, 3-4 C-USA), which leaned heavily on its ground game. Smith also caught seven passes for 41 yards.
Ryan Griffin threw for 163 yards to lead Tulane (2-10, 1-7) in the loss, while Orleans Darkwa rushed for 78 yards on 19 carries.
Tyler Smith gave the Owls a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter following a five-yard scoring run.
A 54-yard Chris Boswell kick late in the second quarter gave the Owls a 10-0 halftime lead.
Boswell connected again late in the third quarter, this time from 51 yards out to give Rice a 13-0 advantage.
The Green Wave finally got on the board early in the fourth quarter, as Ryan Griffin found Xavier Rush with a seven-yard scoring toss.
The Owls put the game out of reach with just over a minute remaining in the contest following a 12-yard Smith scamper.
Tulane committed two turnovers, while Rice had none. Tulane outgained the Green Wave in total yardage, 289 to 237.
