GAME NOTES: The Citadel Bulldogs will try to finally put an end to a 12-game losing streak as they travel to face the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a Southern Conference tilt at Holmes Convocation Center.

The Citadel began the season 2-2, but has only won two more games since that start. The Bulldogs are desperately trying to put to rest a 12-game losing skid, which was extended Saturday after a 62-43 loss to Davidson in the Southern Conference.

Since a five-game losing streak set the team back at the beginning of January, Appalachian State has gone 2-2 in its last four games in SoCon play. The Mountaineers, who are coming off an 83-76 loss to Elon, are 2-6 in conference play - six games behind Chattanooga for the conference lead.

Appalachian State has a pretty firm grip on the all-time series with the Citadel, leading 52-25. That includes an 80-67 victory over the Bulldogs on Jan. 23 on the road.

The Citadel kept its last game close with Davidson through one half of play on Saturday, trailing 24-20 as the teams headed for the locker rooms. Things fell apart for the Bulldogs in the second frame, as Davidson connected on 60.9 percent of its shots to take a giant advantage. Brian White was the only Citadel player to score in double figures, as he netted 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor. The Bulldogs went just 1-of-2 from the free-throw line in the contest.

White checks in at second on the team this season in scoring, netting an average of 12.8 ppg on 54.2 percent shooting from the floor. Only Matt Van Scyoc has a better scoring rate than White at 15.1 ppg through 24 games. White however, edges out Van Scyoc for the team lead in rebounding, 6.6 rpg to 5.6 rpg. Marshall Harris III leads the Bulldogs with 95 assists on the year.

Both Appalachian State and Elon shot the ball well Saturday in Elon's defeat of the Mountaineers, but the Phoenix were just a little bit better. Elon connected on 55.8 percent of its shots from the floor, and ASU hit 53.1 percent. Chris Burgess paced the Mountaineers with 19 points and a team-best five assists in the contest, while Mike Neal chipped in 17 and Tab Hamilton added 15. Tommy Spagnolo rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Mountaineers with 10 points.

Hamilton is the team's active leader in scoring with 13.4 ppg on just 38.4 percent shooting from the field. Jay Canty was the team's leading scorer through five games, but has been sidelined for a majority of the season with a hand injury. Neal is the only other Appalachian State player to average a double-digit point total with 10.6 ppg with a team-best 72 assists. Michael Obacha leads the team in rebounding at 9.1 rpg.

The Citadel has seriously struggled recently. In the 12 consecutive losses, the Bulldogs have only scored 70 or more points three times. Appalachia State should have no trouble taking care of business in this one.
