GAME NOTES: The Wake Forest Demon Deacons continue their season-opening homestand tonight as they host the Bulldogs of The Citadel in non-conference action at Lawrence Joel Coliseum.

Wake Forest has come out on top of all four of its previous outings on the schedule, albeit against some questionable competition. The Demon Deacons own victories over Colgate, VMI, Presbyterian and, most recently Jacksonville three days ago in a 90-83 final.

While the hosts in this case are off to a perfect 4-0 start, the visitors have been far more sporadic. The Citadel had won back-to-back games over Presbyterian and North Greenville to even its record at 2-2, before losing to Tennessee on Monday in Knoxville by a score of 86-60.

Wake Forest holds a commanding 14-2 lead in the all-time series with the Bulldogs, the most recent encounter taking place in 1996 with the Demon Deacons slipping by in an 86-82 final. The win was the ninth in a row for Wake Forest over The Citadel.

This particular game is part of the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament that will be moving to the Bahamas next week.

The Bulldogs allowed Tennessee to shoot 60.7 percent from the field in the first half of their meeting, fell behind by 17 points at the break and never recovered. Overall, the Volunteers connected on 56.6 percent from the floor and 7-of-13 behind the 3-point line, while The Citadel was good on only 34.5 percent from the field. Matt Van Scyoc was the lone double-digit scorer for the visitors with his 19 points, hitting on 4-of-6 beyond the arc, while the rest of the team was 4-of-12 on the outside.

Even though the Tennessee game was the first time this season that Van Scyoc has led his team in scoring, overall he is at the top of the scoring list with 18.2 ppg, thanks to his 40.0 percent shooting from 3-point range and 29-of-31 (.935) at the free-throw line. Ashton Moore accounts for 11.6 ppg and has started every game even though he has shot only 32.7 percent from the field. Despite his faulty shooting, keeping Moore off the floor wouldn't be a good idea because he paces the program with six assists per outing.

Travis McKie not only led all scorers with 22 points against Jacksonville earlier this week, he also registered a double-double with his 10 rebounds as the hosts crushed the visitors on the glass by a 57-40 margin. Codi Miller- McIntyre accounted for 20 points, Coron Williams 14 off the bench and Tyler Cavanaugh 12 points and seven rebounds in the victory. Devin Thomas filled in his stat line with eight points, five assists and a game-high 16 boards.

Thomas has cleared double-digit rebounds in three straight games, leading to his average of 12.5 rpg. Thomas is second on the team in scoring with 15.3 ppg, shooting better from the floor (.686) than he is at the free-throw line (.650). He trails only Miller-McIntyre (21.0 ppg) in the scoring department, the latter also registering 16 assists to place second in that category. As a group, the Demon Deacons are producing 86.5 ppg, despite shooting only 28.4 percent out on the perimeter.

Wake Forest may be undefeated at the moment, but the team would have a tough time defending its record when pressed on the strength of schedule. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs fall in line with the previous opponents and should become yet another victim of the Demon Deacons, but don't read too much into a 5-0 mark before making the trip to the Bahamas.
