GAMES NOTES: The Iowa Hawkeyes continue a three-game homestand with a non- conference matchup against the South Dakota Coyotes at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

South Dakota is starting a short two-game road stint after a four-game homestand. During that span the Coyotes earned three wins to push themselves to an even 4-4 on the season. However in two true road games, South Dakota has suffered a pair of setbacks with losses to Wyoming and Gonzaga. The second game of the road trip will have South Dakota taking on Ball State.

After opening the year on a five-game winning streak, the Hawkeyes suffered back-to-back defeats but bounced back with a dominating 88-59 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last time out. Iowa is 6-2 overall, including a 5-0 mark at home. In the third game of this current homestand the Hawkeyes will face in- state rival Iowa State.

There have been 10 previous meetings between these two schools, although none since a 93-68 Iowa win in 1964. That win gave Iowa a 10-0 lead in the all-time series with an average margin of victory of 28.0 points.

South Dakota took out IUPUI 88-68 last time out thanks to a blistering first half in which the Coyotes shot 68.9 percent including a 4-of-7 effort from beyond the arc. Although the Coyotes slowed to 38.5 percent shooting in the second half a 17-1 edge on points from the free throw line sealed the 20-point win. Juevol Myles had the hot hand in the game and scored 26 points to go along with six rebounds and six assists.

The Coyotes' scoring differential this season falls right in line with the split they have in wins and losses. By scoring 74.1 points per game, while allowing opponents to put in an even 74.0, South Dakota is just barely outscoring its opposition this season. Myles (15.8 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 4.5 apg) is a versatile guard that contributes across the board and also plays the most minutes. Karim Rowson (12.2 ppg, 5.4 rpg) is a solid scorer and one of the team's better rebounders, while Trevor Gruis (11.2 ppg, 6.8 rpg) also gives strength to the frontcourt. Tyler Flack (9.0 ppg, 5.1 rpg) also strengthens the frontline.

Iowa made quick work of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, racing out to a 44-23 lead at halftime and continued to dominate down the stretch in the second half. The Hawkeyes shot 55.8 percent overall, including an 8-of-19 effort from 3-point range. Iowa also outscored Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 22-8 from the free-throw line. Melsahn Basabe scored 13 straight points in the first half and ended with a team-high 17.

The Hawkeyes have enjoyed some much wider margins of victory than the Coyotes this season. Iowa is outscoring opponents by 11.4 points per game this season. As a team Iowa scores 72.9 points per game and shoots 43.8 percent from the field while opposing teams connect on only 38.0 percent of their field goal attempts. Iowa also doesn't allow teams to move the ball effectively with foes managing only 9.1 assists per game. Roy Devyn Marble (14.5 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 3.5 apg) and Aaron White (12.8 ppg, 6.4 rpg) are the only players on the roster scoring in double figures this season. Basabe (8.4 ppg, 4.4 rpg) has made the most of his time off the bench.

So far Iowa has been absolutely unbeatable at home, while South Dakota has failed to put a win on the board on the road. That won't change this time around.
