Valparaiso, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - A 3-pointer by Bobby Capobianco with just under a minute to play put Valparaiso in front to stay as the Crusaders claimed the 68-66 win over the Youngstown State Penguins in Horizon League action at the ARC.
Capobianco finished the meeting with eight points off the bench for the Crusaders (17-12, 9-5 HL) as they won for the third time in the last four outings. Alec Peters led the way for Valpo with 22 points, shooting 5-of-11 beyond the arc, followed by LaVonte Dority with 15 points and six assists in the victory.
The Penguins (15-14, 6-8) were paced by Ryan Weber with a game-high 24 points, while Bobby Hain registered a double-double consisting of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Kamren Belin and Kendrick Perry stepped up with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Valpo shot just 2-of-10 behind the 3-point line in the first half, but thanks to 45.8 percent accuracy from the floor overall, the team trailed by just two points at the break, 32-30.
In the second half the Crusaders connected on a total of just 13 field goals, but eight of those were from beyond the arc and the most important of all furnished by Capobianco in the final minute of regulation.
Thanks to the efforts of Capobianco and his fellow reserves, the bench for Valpo outscored that of YSU, 19-2.
