Despite missing all seven of their attempts from beyond the arc in the first half, the Eagles took a 29-27 lead into the intermission. WCU went into the break trailing after shooting 47.8 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes of action.

The Catamounts took control in the second period by connecting on 14-of-31 shots from the field and also, 10-of-15 tries at the free-throw line. Sumler knocked down a jumper with seven seconds left to give WCU a 68-64 advantage before Hewitt's last second 3-pointer reduced the margin to a single-point just prior to the final buzzer.
