Mount Pleasant, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Quincy Diggs finished with 19 points for the Akron Zips, who took down the Central Michigan Chippewas 82-74 in a Mid-American Conference contest at McGuirk Arena.
Demetrius Treadwell posted a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds for Akron (13-6, 5-1 MAC), which has won seven of its last eight. Jake Kretzer drained 4-of-8 from beyond the arc and tacked on 15 points and Reggie McAdams tallied 11.
Blake Hibbitts netted 21 points and Chris Fowler tacked on 20 for Central Michigan (7-11, 0-6), which has lost six straight. Austin Keel chimed in with 15 points off the bench.
Diggs and Treadwell each scored 10 points in the first half, as the Zips shot 53.3 percent from the floor to take a 41-36 lead at the break. The Chippewas remained in striking distance by sinking 52 percent from the field in the frame.
Kretzer took over in the second half, scoring all 15 of his points in the period, while the Zips shot an even 50 percent from the floor to hold on for the win.
Led by Kretzer, the Zips had a 35-21 advantage in scoring from beyond the arc. They also scored 26 points off of turnovers.
