Clarksville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Brian Williams notched 25 points, leading the Jacksonville State Gamecocks over the Austin Peay Governors, 71-59, in an Ohio Valley Conference matchup at the Dunn Center.
Williams shot 9-of-15 from the floor for the Gamecocks (10-13, 4-4 OVC), who have won three of their last five games. Darion Rackley (15 points), D.J. Felder (11) and Avery Moore (10) all scored in double figures.
Will Triggs scored 16 points to lead the Governors (8-12, 2-4), who dropped their fourth straight. Chris Horton added 11 points.
The Governors shot 45.5 percent from the field in the game's opening half, but were woeful at the free-throw line, hitting just 2-of-11. At the other end, the Gamecocks shot 41.4 percent on field goals, including 5-of-10 from the perimeter, good for a 35-23 halftime lead.
JSU continued its steady offensive performance in the second half, shooting 46.2 percent from the floor and hitting 11-of-12 at the line. Its opponent shot 40.7 percent, including just 2-of-9 from beyond the arc, and the game was out of reach, with the Gamecocks leading by as many as 16 points with seven minutes to play.
The Gamecocks outscored the Governors 21-12 in points off turnovers and went 17-of-18 at the line in the comfortable victory.
