Las Vegas, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Roscoe Smith registered a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds as the UNLV Runnin' Rebels posted an 82-50 win over the Sacred Heart Pioneers as part of the Las Vegas Classic at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Also scoring 15 points for the Runnin' Rebels (6-4) was Khem Birch as he shot 6-of-8 from the floor and added eight rebounds for the hosts. Bryce Dejean- Jones chipped in 14 points as they posted their fourth win in five games.
The Pioneers (2-10), losers of four in a row and six of the last seven, were led by Evan Kelley with 14 points and Chris Evans 10, while Mostafa Abdel Latif accounted for 10 rebounds and six points off the bench.
Sacred Heart actually led by three points early in the meeting, but the team ended up shooting a mere 29.2 percent from the floor and 1-of-8 beyond the arc in the period, en route to a distant 42-15 deficit at the break.
In the second half the advantage for the Rebels reached as high as 36 points, even as the hosts made just 1-of-13 shots behind the 3-point line in the period.
The Pioneers struggled the entire night as they shot only 3-of-17 beyond the arc and 1-of-6 at the charity stripe, all while turning the ball over 18 times.
