Final Score: Utah 74, (25) UCLA 69
Salt Lake City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Jordan Loveridge contributed 17 points and nine rebounds as Utah provided a 74-69 upset over No. 25 UCLA.
Delon Wright supplied 12 points, eight boards and six assists, while Brandon Taylor and Kenneth Ogbe also scored 12 points apiece in the Utes' (14-4, 3-3 Pac-12) second straight win.
"I just tried to help the team," Ogbe said. "They keep telling me to shoot the ball and that helps with my confidence. I try to stay composed and be ready."
Kyle Anderson paced the Bruins (14-4, 3-2) with a career-high 28 points with seven rebounds and seven assists. Zach Lavine had 15 points in the defeat, which snapped a two-game win streak.
"Utah really played well in the first half," UCLA coach Steve Alford said. "We didn't. I thought we had a really bad start to this game. It wasn't the way we wanted to start the game. This is a tough turnaround. We didn't handle our first road trip, we got the split. We didn't come to get a split, we came to get a sweep."
This was Utah's first victory over UCLA in Salt Lake City since 1928.
Anderson tied the game and gave UCLA the lead with back-to-back triples to make it an 18-15 game with 11:08 remaining to cap off a 7-0 run, but the Utes responded with a 15-0 outburst.
Loveridge supplied the final five points during the spurt to make it a 30-18 game with 5:53 left in the first half.
The Bruins got back to within six on treys from Travis Wear and Anderson, but a Dallin Bachynski jumper gave the Utes a 36-26 advantage heading into the break.
Loveridge hit a three to give Utah a 17-point lead, its largest lead of the day, over seven minutes into the second half.
Lavine's layup and Anderson's 3 brought the Bruins within 10 with eight minutes left and Tony Parker went in on a layup to get UCLA back in the game, only trailing 60-56 with 6:01 remaining.
Bachynski made a timely shot to halt UCLA's 11-0 run with nearly five minutes left. Less than a minute later, he drew a foul down low and drained both shots to make it 66-56, restoring Utah's 10-point lead.
The Bruins did not go away down the stretch and came back to get within two. Jordan Adams drove into the lane to make a shot over two defenders to make it 71-69 with 23 seconds left.
Lavine fouled Taylor off the inbounds and Taylor drained both shots to give the Utes a four-point edge.
On the very next play, Anderson's pass in the paint was corralled by Wright, who was subsequently fouled. Wright knocked down his foul shot to account for the final score.
