Piscataway, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by a game-high 26 points from Shabazz Napier, the Connecticut Huskies defeated the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, 82-71, in an American Athletic Conference tilt at the RAC.
For the Huskies (16-4, 4-3 AAC), Ryan Boatright added 12 points and Amida Brimah finished with 10 points.
Kadeem Jack posted a double-double for the Scarlet Knights (8-12, 2-5) with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Jerome Seagears also finished with 19 points and Junior Etou scored 10.
Rutgers shot 48.1 percent from the field, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range in the first half. UConn shot 43.3 percent and just 4-of-12 from beyond the arc, but used an 11-6 advantage at the free-throw line to take a 41-36 lead into halftime.
After the break, the Huskies got hot from the field, connecting on 54.2 percent of their field goal tries and held the Scarlet Knights to just 32 percent. A 15-6 spurt late in the half gave the Huskies some breathing room and allowed them to escape with the road victory.
The Huskies dominated in the frontcourt, outscoring the Scarlet Knights in the paint, 34-12 and outrebounding them, 34-29. Both squads got significant production at the free-throw line, with UConn finishing with a 24-21 edge at the stripe.
